La Rosaliere -

country cottage in Brittany

Large stone cottage near Dinan

perfect holiday in the heart of

the countryside close to the sea

Garden

The cottage is set in over a third of an acre of garden looking directly onto the Brittany countryside giving beautiful views in a private setting. The garden stretches behind and to the left of the property. The garden is comprised of lawned areas and landscaped areas in which to relax or to play. In the evening the loudest noises come from the singing crickets. The weather in Brittany is such that the evenings are often the best part of the day, often with bright blue warm skies.

The cottage comes equipped with plenty of garden furniture and guests are free to move this around as they please. There is also a barbecue available for use and the garden shed also includes footballs, rackets and French boules. At the bottom of the garden there is a swing. The garden is a great place for children to explore and with the gardens becoming mature an excellent place to play hide and seek.

If you are stuck for things to do then we don't mind you doing some gardening, tools are in the garden shed!

Just outside the rear of the cottage is an area gravelled with granite stones which makes a great area for dining alfresco. The rear garden catches the afternoon and evening sun. There is a mature apple tree and some younger fruit trees. If they are in season please feel free to pick and eat the fruit.

The pictures below show more of the beautiful garden and the countryside which surrounds the garden.

The garden is planted with a variety of plants which are common across Brittany. The plants widely seen across Brittany appear surprisingly exotic at first. The region benefits from the mild microclimate due to the gulf stream. Aganpanthus, phormiums and palm trees are widely seen - if this interests you then a visit to the Island of Brehat is a must. In July the island has amazing displays of the lilac colored agapanthus. Also the colourful hortensia (hydrangea) plants are very popular in Breton gardens. You will notice that French gardens are very colourful with the French taking real pride in their gardens. Even the smallest villages are very well maintained.

The planting at the cottage tries to showcase the plants regularly seen across Brittany.

Front garden

At the front of the house there is a small garden which is directly accessed from the patio door of the kitchen and makes an ideal location for an al fresco breakfast in the summer. There are cast iron chairs and a table to sit and enjoy your holiday.
